Simmering is the 11th district of Vienna and characterized by industry and residential streets. The Simmeringer main street is lined by discounters and Kebabstands. The Gasometer, 4 former 19th century gas tanks, today accomodates shops, function spaces and apartments. The Art Nouveau church dedicated to St. Charles Borromeo is in the central cemetery, which hosts the tombs of famous people such as Beethoven and Schubert. The 11th district offers on the one hand urban areas
with excellent infrastructure and on the other hand very rural areas with green spaces.
